During the 13th century A.D., the Middle Ages were slowly coming to an end. The Pope and the Empire, the two universal powers that dominated the previous centuries, were breaking apart. Science and technology were beginning to flourish again. Society was rapidly changing, as cities revived and gained autonomy while the feudal system was starting to crumble. In Medioevo Universale, you have to lead one of the great kingdoms of those times, while taking control of trade, diplomacy, infrastructure development, scientific progress, and military strategy. Build forts and fortifications, bring war to your enemies, conquer new lands, discover new technologies, expand your commerce, repel the barbarians on the frontiers, recruit armies and fleets, forge alliances, and defeat your opponents in battle! Medioevo Universale is a game full of components (more than 1700!) with many aspects to manage, deep interactions with other players, and the ability to give you an immersive experience in the medieval era. In addition of the normal game rules, the box contains also the original prototype rulebook of Nicola Iannone and the elements to play his experimental game version.

I'm the author of this boardgame, so my rating is not an objective of course, but I assure you that this game will never be bored! Simple rules, hundreds of combos and dozens of game strategies. I hope you will play in many to this boardgame and you will have fun as it happened to me over the last 17 years.

One of the greatest project ever conceived in the board gaming world. You should just see the homongous number of people ready to empty their pockets and wallets during fairs in Italy to get hold of a copy of this! If implemented with the sufficient amount of love and resources, this will very very likely become a worldwide hit!

Seems hugely bloated and overpriced. I'd rather play Crusader Kings II or some such on my PC.

March 2016: Has some map problems, as far as historical accuracy. My attention was specifically drawn to the south eastern border of the Holy Roman Empire circa 1260, which should also encompass modern-day Slovenia, which had then been divided between Styria, Carniola, Windisch March, Savinija valley, etc. The majority of Slovenia had never been located within Hungary nor Croatia. The borders of the Venetian Republic are also suspect.

The definition of overproduction in a game. Beautiful, but you'll pay for it. Clash of Cultures, Fief: France, History of the World, Struggle of Empires, Mare Nostrum Empires, and Britannia scratch the same itch and are more accessible & affordable.
