Description from the publisher: Horrific monsters and spectral presences lurk in manors, crypts, schools, monasteries, and derelict buildings near Arkham, Massachusetts. Some spin dark conspiracies while others wait for hapless victims to devour or drive insane. It’s up to a handful of brave investigators to explore these cursed places and uncover the truth about the living nightmares within. Designed by Corey Konieczka, Mansions of Madness is a macabre game of horror, insanity, and mystery for two to five players. Each game takes place within a pre-designed story that provides players with a unique map and several combinations of plot threads. These threads affect the monsters that investigators may encounter, the clues they need to find, and which climactic story ending they will ultimately experience. One player takes on the role of the keeper, controlling the monsters and other malicious powers within the story. The other players take on the roles of investigators, searching for answers while struggling to survive with their minds intact. Do you dare enter the Mansions of Madness?

Game description from the publisher: "Briefly summarized, it hinted at a hidden race of monstrous beings which lurked somewhere among the remoter hills – in the deep woods of the highest peaks, and the dark valleys where streams trickle from unknown sources. These beings were seldom glimpsed, but evidences of their presence were reported by those who had ventured farther than usual up the slopes of certain mountains or into certain deep, steep-sided gorges that even the wolves shunned." –H.P. Lovecraft, "The Whisperer in Darkness" Venture into the unknown with Mansions of Madness: Call of the Wild! Five new scenarios and eleven double-sided board tiles plunge investigators into the mysterious backwoods, shaking the foundations of what players have come to expect. The keeper has even more surprises at his disposal, and at times must solve ritual puzzles and seek out clues. A focus on outdoor maps encourages non-linear exploration, and new Allies assist in combat while driving the macabre narrative. Survive the wilderness in Call of the Wild!

Season of the Witch is a Print on Demand story expansion for Mansions of Madness. Designed by Richard Launius (Arkham Horror, Elder Sign), Season of the Witch is a single-scenario expansion that sends players on a tense and terrifying race against the clock. There are no new mechanics added in this expansion; it is purely an additional scenario for the base game that will use the modular board setup from Mansions of Madness. The setup of this scenario will be dictated by the included event cards and reference sheets. In this macabre game of horror, insanity, and mystery for two to five players, each game takes place within a pre-designed story that provides players with a unique map and several combinations of plot threads. These threads affect the monsters that investigators may encounter, the clues they need to find, and which climactic story ending they will ultimately experience. One player takes on the role of the keeper, controlling the monsters and other malicious powers within the story. The other players take on the role of investigators, searching for answers while struggling to survive with their minds intact. (Note: variations in printing mean that cards from Print on Demand expansions will be subtly different in appearance and texture from base game cards. Therefore, any necessary base game cards (such as the “nothing of interest” Exploration cards) will be reprinted in each expansion, to retain a consistent appearance when shuffled.)

Game description from the publisher: Inside abandoned hospitals, secret laboratories, and forgotten cellars, scientists are conducting depraved experiments that will drag humanity to the brink of the abyss. Only a small group of investigators can discover the truth and put an end to these mad plots before it's too late... Mansions of Madness: Forbidden Alchemy provides players with new investigators for the Mansions of Madness base game, as well as new Trauma, Mythos, and Combat cards for use in any story. Forbidden Alchemy also includes three new scenarios, in which investigators will encounter new rooms, monsters, items, clues, locks, and obstacles: In "Return of the Reanimator", the investigators are tasked with entering a vermin-infested manor to seek the whereabouts of Doctor Herbert West, a reportedly insane scientist whose legendary experiments in reanimation led to his untimely demise. "Yellow Matter" tells the grim tale of research into strange extraterrestrial beings. But who is the experimenter, and who is the subject? "Lost in Time and Space" takes your Mansions of Madness experience to mind-bending new heights with the introduction of time travel! Travel back to the mid-nineteenth century or ahead to the mid-twenty-first in your search for the truth behind a strange and dangerous device. With four new investigators, two monster types, nearly 250 new cards, 40 tokens and markers, and six detailed map tiles, Forbidden Alchemy introduces a host of new enhancements to your Mansions of Madness experience. The revised printing of Mansions of Madness: Forbidden Alchemy, scheduled for release in May 2012, includes corrected cards and map set-ups for all three scenarios.

“It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. ” –H. P. Lovecraft, At The Mountains of Madness It started out as a harmless boast in a quiet Innsmouth pub. But what seemed an unlikely drunken yarn will quickly become a living nightmare, as you and your fellow investigators set out to find the truth behind rumors of ghastly human reanimation! Can you solve the mystery behind these gruesome rituals, or will you become their next unholy sacrifice? ‘Til Death Do Us Part is the third Print on Demand story expansion for Mansions of Madness! Designed by Tom Jolly (Cave Troll, Wiz-War), ‘Til Death Do Us Part tells a story of love, loss, and dark arcane rituals. Enlist the posthumous aid of an unlikely killer’s past victims... or you might just join them for eternity.

Started my first game of this at 11:30pm hoping for an interesting 2-3 hour game. Four and a half hours later, the game was still going but I had to leave. There are some really interesting things going on (finding clues, puzzles, story-based combat), but these also turn into negatives. The puzzles are neat, but drive the game to a grinding halt. The game provides many possibilites, but adds a lot of fiddilyness.
