06.2021 MM is a route-building, pick-up and deliver game that asks the question: What if we gamified P&U on a micro-level? Building stations, laying track, moving your train, picking up passengers, picking up passengers that you have the “rights” to, holding passengers, dropping off passengers – even turning around! – all these are actions. There are some euro-y elements of manipulating your player board, getting scoring bonuses, and fulfilling secret objectives. But, mostly, what I’ll remember about MM is the tedium of inching snail-like to execute the simplest plan, and the declarations of “You can’t do that!” that we aimed at one another. MM is an efficiency puzzle with very nice bits, basically no player interaction, and all the charm of a subway schematic – not for me.
