Ascension is a fast paced deckbuilding game designed by Magicâ„¢ Pro Tour champions Justin Gary, Rob Dougherty, and Brian Kibler, with artwork by Eric Sabee. Ascension is a deck-building game where players spend Runes to acquire more powerful cards for their deck. It offers a dynamic play experience where players have to react and adjust their strategy accordingly. \13\\13\ Gameplay is similar to other deckbuilding games, with the player adding cards to their deck by purchasing them from a central deck, which has the top six cards revealed and available for purchase. When cards are removed, they are replaced with a new one from the top of the deck. Victory points are earned in three ways: firstly, each card purchased is worth one or more victory points; second, victory points can be gained by defeating monsters with a power resource featured on several of the cards; finally, some cards give victory points directly each time they are played.

Not ready to rate this after one play. Word on the street is that it has depth and subtlety once you are familiar with the cards. But I felt (as others have complained) that I was at the mercy of the shuffles, much more so than with either Dominion or Thunderstone. I will be playing it again, and hope to understand it better. Production values: I didn't like the cards, which felt like stamped cardboard and not like real cards. I'm afraid they'll chip and fray at the edges too easily, and may not withstand bending as well as real cards would.

Not the greatest rulebook. I had to go to various posts on BGG before I worked out how to play. Now I realise it is quite a simple game but not having played Dominion or Thunderstone before the mechanics were totally new to me and quite unlike any I’m used to. Anyway having played 4 games so far we’re really enjoying it. Fast set-up, fast play and not too bad on the 'take that' meanness front. Love the artwork. Differs from the usual Fantasy Flight ilk - i.e. half naked female characters with HUGE breasts and tiny everything else. You could actually play this one with your family and other adults and not cringe!

I liked this one more than dominion. NOt sure I liked it enough to buy it. seemed fairly luck dependent - a lot was riding on what cards came up and when.

At first it looks great, with a nice board and nice gems. But the artwork isn't as good as Dominion or Thunderstone, there's too much randomness in terms of what cards are available each term, and there's no enough variety of cards in the deck. A good deck-building game, but the strategy isn't as deep as I was hoping. I'd rather play Dominion, despite the longer setup time.
